Cool Down

Bill's 50
12/16/2012 7:28 PM
I'm wearing booties and a balaclava. And I've stopped at Buffalo Eddy.

It has been so long since I've used my booties that they are not even a matched set. One is ragged and neither wants to stay on my feet, but they still do the job.

At 40 degrees, wool socks are usually all I need for a ride up to 2 hours. But would you believe the club set out for a 50 miler on the 15th of December?

Time was the bikes went up in the garage or inside on rollers until April. Not this year.

Tracy and Roger, Bill, Donna, Gary, Linda, and Marilyn headed south about 11:40 only to be stopped by Marilyn's flat just on the west side of Southway Bridge.

It was cold but dry and we had very little wind until a few miles short of Couse Creek when we picked up a head wind. No one said quit at Buffalo Eddy but me. I had enough miles to make nearly 50 on the return. When Marilyn turned back, I went with her. We had a bit of head wind on the return that made the ride colder than I'd like. My fingers were miserable and Marilyn's toes were worse. We stopped at the store in Asotin. My fingers warmed up nicely and I rode home comfortably for 51 miles.

I knew I'd miss the cupcakes by not finishing with the group, but some sacrifices have to be made. Here's Donna's account of the rest of the ride.

I messed up and did not get a photo of Bill. I had the camera with me, but we ended up going to Roger and Traci's house (where it was warm) to eat the cupcakes. I got caught up in the fun and forgot to take a photo. My bad We all earned 50+ miles though, so it was a very good day.

Sounds like I may have missed more than a cupcake. Any way you'll just have to make do with a pic of Bill from another day.

Happy 50th, Bill!

For the Ride of it!

Bill, we've really enjoyed you in our cycling group. You're always good about checking on the back of the pack! I'm looking forward to next years rides. Linda
