16th Annual Ride to Joseph, Oregon
The 2013 Joseph ride will be September 14-15. Again this year we will follow the old tradition of riding from Lewiston, Idaho to Wallawa Lake, Oregon (100 miles), and returning the next day. The management of Eagle Cap Chalets has agreed to host us this year. The folks there have assured us the place is secure and bikes can be either stored in rooms or in a locked shed. If 10 rooms are booked, a conference room will be available at no additional charge. We could use that for a catered dinner (Menu), or a place to store our bikes. Please start thinking about making your room reservations for the night of the 14th soon. It would be nice to show our interest in this facility. Make sure you identify yourself as part of the TRC group so that we can all be together in one area. The traditional post ride dinner location will be determined later. This ride is still in the planning stages. Stay tuned for updates.

Over the past 17 years, this has been our signature event. The ride first went out to the Wallowa Lake to hear the old-timers tell it, check out the Origins of the Joseph Ride. In recent years the ride has stopped at the Indian Lodge Motel in Joseph itself.
When management unfriendly to cyclists took over the Indian Lodge in 2010, we opted to end the ride in Enterprise. A number of riders had already begun to get reservations in Enterprise.
In 2011 Enterprise was as far as we got. It was still the most difficult club ride we ever do with Bufford Grade and Rattlesnake Grade.
Participation was off a bit in 2011 though we cannot attribute that to failing to ride on into Joseph.

Special Prep for this ride
The weather can be almost anything this time of year. Definitely bring cold weather gear for the ride out of Wallawa Lake. We usually start stripping the extra gear off a few miles outside of Enterprise. It's also a good idea to keep a set of rain gear in the sag wagon, just in case.

SAG
We ask $10.00 per rider to help with the price of Gas, please.
The sag wagon this year will haul our luggage and water, but only has
room for a couple of bikes in case of injury or sickness. Riders who do
not plan on completing the entire ride should arrange for their own
transportation. Many riders partner up and share a vehicle. Sag money will be collected through the website, or during the ride.

We leave the boat launch on Saturday morning at 7 headed South to Asotin and arrive, most of us, about 4 in the afternoon, time to shower and have a libation of our choice before dinner together at a local restaurant.
We have breakfast together on Sunday morning (usually after a short ride into Enterprise) and are back on the road by 9. The return covers the same route climbing gently back to the top of Bufford grade. The elevation gain is less on Sunday. Only Rattlesnake Grade's 11 miles of 6-8 percent climbing keep us from home today.

This is a tour, not a race. No entry fee or registration process commits the rider to show up if the weather turns foul as it might. Nor do we expect everyone to ride the entire distance on either or both days.
Many of us like to turn this into two days of centuries. Others choose to sag or trade off with others. We depend upon volunteer sag drivers and have had great success in recent trips. We take up a collection for gas money for the sag vehicles on Sunday morning.
