Devil’s Slide Director Needed!

Devil’s Slide Director Needed!

Devil’s Slide is the club’s only USA sanctioned event. It is a mountain bike race at Hell’s Gate State Park south of Lewiston. Rider’s say it is an excellent course. Over the years running the race has fallen on Joe Wagenbrenner of MAMBA.

Joe has resigned and will be out of town January through February and MAMBA feels they should stay focused on trail building and promotion.. Sadly, that means he won’t be able to help anyone taking over. It is likely that the race will have to be cancelled for 2008.

The prospects aren’t good within the club for finding a director. This makes it look unlikely the race will resume under our auspices. We would like to see it continue with or without us. We are prepared to lend a hand in future editions or continue to sponsor it ourselves if we can find a director.

We appreciate your past participation as well as current interest and suppport. Please send comments, thoughts, and applications to trcboard@twinriverscyclists.org.

Cranksgiving food drive, er . . bike.

Saturday, November 10th, 2007
Too late to organize this this year. Sounds like a Nicky project anyway.

Thanksgiving is November 22nd in the U.S. this year, and that means Cranksgiving just around the corner. What is Cranksgiving you ask? Mix a food drive for a local charity with a fun bike ride or alleycat race, depending on where it takes place, and add a bit of color and mischief, and you’ve got Cranksgiving.
Riders get a list of items to be purchased at designated stores around town, and off they go. They buy the goods and bring them back. Past that, there aren’t many rules!
Read more about Cranksgiving and where one of these charity food rides might be happening near you.

Ed Arant: Lewiston’s First Bicycle Friend

Twin Rivers Cyclists
Steve’s second newsletter article about cycling history in Lewiston. You’ll need to click on the The rest of the Story. This is in pdf.

Early bicycle enthusiast Samuel Edgar “Ed” Arant operated a bicycle shop at Fifth Street at the rear of the old Weisgerber building that preceded the present structure- back when Lewiston’s post office was on the corner of Main and Fifth. His 1939 obituary says, “through his efforts the (bicycle) craze that swept through the country in the early 1890’s became manifest in Lewiston.

Once again, thanks to Steve Largent.

Twin Rivers Cyclists
Lewiston’s Bicycling Club in the 1890’s
by Steve Largent from January, 2000 issue Twin Rivers Cyclists

Do you remember when the club was “originally” organized? Do you know who first rode a bicycle from Lewiston to Spokane or Moscow? Here’s evidence you don’t unless you’re hiding your age well.

Thanks to Steve for providing the photograph and article from the club’s newsletter. Now we’ve got to get him to tell who had that first Trans-Spokane record. I hope he wrote that second article in the series and can find it.
